This rare Suburban has a great history which was traced back to Bethesda
Sanatorium in Denver, Colorado. There is documentation, a photo in a book, written
about the history of the Denver hospital. The author and hospital director since the
50?s verified this was the only Suburban owned and operated at the hospital. The
Suburban is a ton, GC code truck. The vehicle was purchased from their uncle in
1984, placed in storage and then the refurbishment started in 2008.
Undergoing a complete frame off restoration, the original frame has been boxed
front and rear to allow the larger body the ability to flex. A Heidts Mustang II IFS kit
was installed with power front disc brakes. The rear axle is from a 60?s era Nova
with drum brakes and 3.36 gears.

The Suburban has been built with meticulous attention to detail and retains all the
original body panels, doors, Clam Shell style tailgate, running boards and fenders.
The only exception is the right rear fender which would have required many hours
of body work to straighten. It was, however, replaced with a N.O.S. fender. The hood
was changed from a butterfly opening style hood to a more traditional front opening
style. The original hood ornament was retained, chromed and reinstalled. A new
hood center trim piece was also fabricated. A new original style grille, emblem and
trim were installed. Original headlights were used. Rear LED taillights have been
changed to flow more with the shape of the body and match the headlights. A new
chrome windshield frame was installed while the original rear window trim rings
were chromed and reinstalled. The original driver?s side mirror support was
chromed and reinstalled while a new passenger side chrome mirror support was
purchased and installed to match. The window openings are all original, drip rails
have been retained to match stock appearance. The windshield has been
permanently mounted to prevent leaks. The door glass and middle windows are
electronically operated while the furthest back windows retain the original hand
crank tracks.

Custom bumpers were hand fabricated from tube steel to match the contour of
newly purchased bumper guards, and then chromed to a show polish. It rolls on
Stockton Custom 15 wheels with chrome stock style hubcaps and beauty rings. The
front tires are BFGoodrich Radial T/A P215/65R15 and the rear tires are
BFGoodrich Radial T/A P255/70R15.

The truck is powered by a crate 350c.i. Ram Jet V8. It has a polished aluminum
intake plenum, chrome valve covers and many other dress up goodies. It has
headers and dual exhaust. It is cooled by a Walker Radiator with electric fan, power
steering and power brakes. Custom hood hinges support the hood from a smoothed
firewall, made from my old wheelbarrow. Electric fuel pump is mounted to the
frame underneath the truck. The engine is paired up to a 700R4 Automatic
Overdrive transmission.

The interior features custom beige marine grade vinyl with suede inserts in the
seats, door panels and headliner. Black carpet with vinyl edged piping covers the
entire floor and tailgate. A custom built center console houses power window
switches and stereo controls. It features an IDIDIT tilt steering column, with a ?40
Ford style steering wheel. The dash has been reconfigured to hide the Vintage Air
box and vents; it also holds the original rebuilt gauges. The accelerator, brake and
parking brake pedals are aluminum aftermarket. The original windshield crank
handle is still in place. All original window crank handles were reused after
chroming. The crank handles in the doors and for the middle windows are now used
as switches for the electric windows. The rear window cranks are still actually hand
operated. All windows have a gray tint. The original door opening knobs have been
chromed and reinstalled. A camera is mounted in the rear license plate bracket with
a LCD Video Display Monitor installed above the windshield. A Kenwood stereo
receiver with 1600 watt Mono Digital amplifier, Lightning 800 watt 4 channel
amplifier, Memphis speakers and 12 Sub are mounted under the rear seat. 4x6
coaxial speakers are mounted in the rear of the interior near the clam shell tailgate,
6 coaxial speakers are mounted in the kick panels. There are courtesy lights
incorporated in the kick panels and also up in the custom built headliner. The
interior was designed and built by a local interior shop, California Custom
Upholstery.

PPG Paint was professionally applied over a body with multiple hours of prep work
by local paint shop. Lower body panels, fenders and running boards are covered
with Gloss Black. The upper portion has been covered with Champagne Metallic. The
body lines and wheels are painted Plum Crazy purple. The interior portions not
covered in fabric are also painted in the Champagne Metallic. There are no visible
flaws or irregularities of any kind in the finish. The fit and finish of all panels are
excellent due to the extensive bodywork which show excellent gloss and reflectivity.

Though there are very few 1937 Chevrolet Suburbans in existence, as a practical
matter, this vehicle is one of a kind. It is a virtually never-seen truck model that has
been transformed into a modern, powerful vehicle every bit as comfortable and
enjoyable to drive as a new Chevrolet Suburban, with the added appeal of pre-war
styling. The initial impression of this truck is that it is an exceptionally well-restored
old Chevy, but upon closer inspection reveals a show-car level of customization and
enhancement. The build of this vehicle was clearly thought out and professionally
implemented. It was built to be driven, and can also be shown in any venue with
confidence that there will be nothing else like it on the field! It has won many
awards/trophies at large car shows.
